We remember your history and lives.

In 1963, five cities, Moji, Kokura, Tobata, Yawata, and Wakamatsu, merged and became Kitakyushu City. This booklet was published in the year(2013), which marks the 50th anniversary of the merger of the five cities.

In a project  “I Have a Dream… Seina“, I encountered a U.S. Marine veteran who was captured in the Philippines during WWII. He arrived in Moji port and had been working as a prisoner of war in a coal mine in Fukuoka Prefecture. Moji is my hometown. I learned pieces of the history of the city where I was born and raised from an old American man.

This booklet introduced not only Allied prisoners of war but also the war history of Kitakyushu City before and after the Pacific War. This is a tribute to people who died because of the war in my hometown and soldiers who left for South Asia’s war fields from my hometown and never came back. Also, this is my message for people in the future to remember this history. this is my message for people in the future to remember this history.
