Ryu Murakami filmed the movie “KYOKO” and wrote the novel “KYOKO”, which is set in Tokyo → New York → Miami → Havana.

From New York, we traveled along the East Coast of the United States to Miami and
then to Cuba, the “land of music and dance”.

Twelve years ago, Jose, a GI, and dancer, taught dance to 8-year-old Kyoko, who was growing up in a military base town. Kyoko flies to America to meet the man who taught her what is most important to her. On her journey, which goes far beyond her wildest dreams, she passes like the wind among immigrants, exiles, AIDS patients, and gay men.
