As a novel it is a "minor piece," but to put it grandly, it is the work that changed my life. — Ryu Murakami

From New York, we traveled along the East Coast of the United States to Miami and then to Cuba, the "land of music and dance."

Twelve years ago, Jose, a GI and dancer, taught dance to 8-year-old Kyoko, who was growing up in a military base town. Kyoko flies to America to meet the man who taught her what is most important to her. On her journey, which goes far beyond her wildest dreams, she passes like the wind among immigrants, exiles, AIDS patients, and gay men.

Because of You

Now, I am OK. I realized that there is a future only when I am on the way.

It's unsettling and unstable while I'm on my way somewhere, but I think it'll probably work out.

Because the dance that José taught me is there, in my body —
he lives in me.
